Madeline has been making beads since 2006, graduating with a degree in Applied arts in 2009, where she specialised in lampwork, creating for her degree show, the piece ‘flock’ – a wearable glass sculpture made up of lampworked elements.
Since coming back to the ‘real world’, beads that have unusual sculptural elements, and raised detailing are a constant feature of Madeline’s work. manipulating the glass just the way she wants is both a delight and a challenge to her. She is constantly developing her skills by experimenting and testing new ideas & colours
Madeline’s jewellery is often understated, the silverwork simple and clean, allowing the colours of the glass and the quality of the lampwork to shine through.
Her love of colours shows through in her work, unusual colour combinations a specialty, she says “There really isn’t a colour I don’t like, every colour has its place, and ideal partner, its about balance mainly, sometimes, a tiny splash of that vibrant yellow, juicy orange, or something like chartreuse, is enough to lift a piece from ordinary, into something stunning”
With her new studio nearly completed she is looking forward to spending more time extending her skills, teaching and sharing with others her love of lampwork.
