My name is Vickie Christian, ‘ V ‘ to my friends. I make jewellery and always loved lampwork beads and always dreamed of making my own one day. I did contemplate getting the lampworking kit many times, but always chickened out. Then I went to the Flame Off in Towcester in 2009, went on a hothead, and was instantly hooked. I like to pick out random rods of glass, frit or silver wire and some tools and let the glass do the talking. I don’t think I have a specific style yet. I especially admire the artistry that goes into beads such as those made by Claire Morris, and the flowers made by Laney Mead (Izzybeads).
I became a full-time lampworker after quitting my job as a shift running manager at McDonalds in November 2009 due to personal reasons. As a single parent raising my two gorgeous boys it’s all hard work with the business but I love it and wouldn’t change it for anything else.
