About the Artists

Tillerman Beads

Art teacher Mike Poole was introduced to lampwork by his wife Su, who wanted bespoke beads for her own jewellery designs. Little did she know he'd become enamoured of lampwork and insist on selling his glass art instead of letting Su keep all the beads to herself!

Bead Envy

Emma Green was already an accomplished stained glass and fusing artist before turning to beadmaking full time. She works from her studio in the Stained Glass Centre, Scarborough, North Yorkshire creating whimsical and quirky character beads that seem to take on a life of their own!

SR Glass As a young girl, Sharon Reynolds saw a glass blowing demonstration that was to spark a life long passion for both hot and cold glass working. Sharon likes to create a sense of movement in her lampwork beads and jewellery, which can be seen in her irregular and often organic designs.

Lesley Mcfarland Beads
Lesley is a British maker of handmade glass beads and other items such as goddesses and vessels.  She has trained with Kate Drew-Wilkinson, Barbara Mason, Diana East and Loren Stump. She also makes jewellery generally using her own beads and sterling silver with a focus of interest at the moment in metals on beads and also the "Watercolour effect"  She says " I am obsessed with working in glass and I am constantly looking for new ways of making the glass change and the effect of one type of glass on another,"

Flame Born Beads I have always held a fascination for all things creative, from fiber arts and textiles, to ceramics and photography.
I began making glass beads during the summer of 2005 as a new 'hobby' whilst on sick leave from my job as a project officer, supporting vulnerable women.
My new 'hobby' took on a life all of it's own and my new career was born. I still go back and volunteer my services once a week though !

RedHotSal  Sally Carver works out of her studio in Hinckley in the heart of the United Kingdom and specialises in fine & unique lampwork glass beads.

She took the plunge after many years spent working in the Security Print Industry, as a Holographer. She enjoys finding out about the properties of glass, the colour reactions, and the, well, physics of bead making, but it's also fantastic to apply this knowledge to a beautiful and creative end. She says "Bead making has really taken off in the UK in the last year or two and I'm sure that anyone who has had a go at making their own glass bead will agree that it is a wonderful way to express yourself and release that pent-up creativity."

Crafted Gems Caroline Hannon became interested in lampwork beads after many years of making jewellery.  After not being able to find the exact beads she wanted, Caroline started to look at the idea of making lampwork beads herself. Caroline was at a bead fair when she saw a lampworking demo, shortly after she took a class with Mike Poole and has been hooked ever since. Caroline creates all her beads in her studio in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Beverley Hicklin

Beverley discovered lampwork glass bead making when she was looking for unusual beads to use in her jewellery making.  Her background in textile design led her to experiment with texture and colour and to push herself to discover new and exciting techniques.  All her beads are unique one-offs.  Please visit her website to see the current beads she has available.

Mari Hughes Mari has been making jewellery from silver and gold since she was in school. She did a degree in 3D design in Sheffield where she specialised in silversmithing and jewellery. She loves working with glass because although it is an ordinary, everyday material it can be transformed by skill and craftsmanship into a treasured possession. That is why she approaches her bead making with the same eye for detail and quality control as if she were working in silver or gold. Mari lives and works in Cardiff, South Wales.

Anna Richards Anna started studying Art and Design at High School and went on to achieve a First class degree in Graphic Design. It was during her degree that she was introduced to glass and metalwork as a module and she fell in love with the "hands on" approach instantly.

Jan Jennings I have had an interest in creative art all my life, including watercolour
painting, stained glass and sculpting, but after an amazing visit to Venice
and the Murano glassworks my attention became completely focused on making jewellery and eventually my own lampwork beads. I live within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and it is from these beautiful surroundings and a love of nature and flowers that I gain much of the inspiration for my work. Melting glass provides me with a special medium from which I can take great pleasure in creating my own unique, one-of-a-kind little pieces of art!
